a dumb question about A.I. cars

OK. Before I go on, please realize I don't know a thing about coding. I do know that this game really wasn't geared for single player racing. Unless you want to count hot lapping. Now we have mod vehicles. A lot of them out there. You can't run a whole field of these modded cars in single player. And that makes sense cause you can't just code A.I. cars for every single mod that pops up. In LFS the A.I. cars are coded cars. The driver is in the car to look pretty and I guess provide weight. So what about coding the driver instead? How far away are we, technologically, from having the ability to have that? I don't mean sentience like those chat bots. Basically what I mean is something that's marginally more intelligent than the A.I. car. If you could do that with the drivers, then you could pretty much use whatever modded vehicle you want. I know now that this concept falls under the realm of possibility. Just not so sure about practicality. Has any thought been given to this? Or is it "Hell no! And don't bring it up again!" ?

What I'm wondering is what's gonna happen when Putin gets taken out? Will it be a coup only limited to the top elites? Or will it turn into a multi factional civil war?

Can I be honest here? The bikes in LFS make riding a real bike easy. Somebody modded a cruiser but it's geared like a hayabusa. I ride a muscle bike. And as much as I'd like to think its as fast as a crotch rocket, it's not really. I mean sure I can shoot down Ninjas and jixxers, but something that's 900 + ccs? not really..... LOL my ride is actually OLDER than LFS. But yeah. They tend to speed wobble at low speeds. Don't get me wrong. I love the bikes. And I still fight with learning to use them, I just think they need a ways to go to replicate the real experience. And unfortunately, they'll never be able to replicate the life. LOLOLOL LFS MC 1%

How do the bike models react to the railroad tracks on Fern Bay and South City? In real life, I've had to deal with a similar situation and it's not very fun.... I guess I could try it myself, huh? I've tried one on Blackwood, using an X box controller.... And ate it leaning too hard LOL just like real life!

Too bad you can't swap out the motor..... They use a turbo? I thought the MRTs had carbs.

You know. This whole thing about mods is nice. It really is. But what I'd like to see is somebody do something about the wheels of the cars we already have.

I see one obvious problem with bikes in LFS from that video. At least South City and the fern bay tracks.
If you try to get your lean on going over tracks, it's most likely gonna be a short ride.

Wow. This is cool. Kind of confused about something. These modded cars, will they be in the updated version of LFS? Or are they downloaded from secondary sites like what mods from other games are?

Quote from 5tag :I think most cars were added 15+ years ago, which was back when they just went with it.
The later additions had to do with financial backing and/or promo. Obviously the business details elude me.
AFAIK the 2006 BMW Sauber F1 car was part of a deal with Intel. The Formula BMW came in association with the V1 Championship. And the infamous VW Scirocco (not yet released) was used for a competition at Games Convention in 2008. The MRT5 and Raceabout 06 are the results of university projects from Canada and Finland respectively. I'd be interested to hear from ErViSca how that came to be.

Storytime with devs when? Big grin

I thought the Raceabout was actually some sort of production car from a start-up in Sweden. It's not? Wow. I never knew how the beemer came about. I just updated one day and it was there. Personally, I like that they make up their own cars and I think they should do that with any more cars they wanna put in the game. Since the base cars were already dated back in '03, I'd like to see them go historical. Base car models on real cars from earlier eras.... Like a '30s era FWD formula car/roadster. Or when everyone was still experimenting with aerodynamics in the late '60s and had those crazy spoilers. And I really wish they'd do more with the drag strip.

Quote from Flotch :I would have supposed that with VW scirocco having very few setup options, it would come with this most awaited update ever 🤘🏻

You just had to bring up the VW, didn't you?

Quote from sinanju :Never played the game, but looks like Need for Speed: Heat may have road expansion joints. At least, by the looks of a still frame I took from a YouTube video ....

However, I'm betting that's a graphical thing only. Not that it's not nice Smile

Although, it does looks more like a stihl saw cut. My experience of expansion joints are that the people that fill them in think their job is to roughly mark the area that was done, as most of the stuff is just spilt on the road rather than in the joint.

Regardless. If a programmer was thinking of adding realism to a track, I would think rain, oil, tyre 'marbles', racing line rubber and painted surfaces would be way more important than tarmac joints.

In case you're wondering; the yellow car lost control way before getting near any of the lines you see in the image.

I think there should be more attention paid to the road/track surface. Maybe not to an extreme degree. Like lay out the joints and leave them. Maybe not go as far as worry about heat buckling or flood damage. But yeah, those joints can have a pretty profound effect on a race. One car with a softer suspension set up and longer wheelbase can hit the spot just right and be ok where a car with a stiffer suspension set up won't as much. What would that be like after a 10-20 lap race?... Hopefully, this picture came through. See that line in the middle of the lane? That line opens and closes quite a bit. In places the surface on one side or the other becomes uneven. Now. How do you think that would effect things if you're road course turns left, but this line keeps going straight? Actually on this lane, there's like a chicane.

Quote from sinanju :On Motorways / Freeways / major highways, there's a lot of heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic. I think in USA you call them tractor/trailers?....

OK.... hmmmm. So City Sprint 1. the back straight is on an elevated section of highway. In real life there would be seems all over it from how they built it - if it was real. Those little joints expand and contract. Not by wear and tear so much as by shifting ground and temperature changes. Sometimes I can look down on one and see the ground down below - then six months later the pieces come together a bit more. For motorcycles, not paying attention to them can be deadly. So I figure these joints should be there and have some sort of effect on race cars shifting around trying to get the best line.
I imagine with building actual tracks, things like that are taken into consideration. But the S. City and Fern Bay courses are ran on actual roads... uh you know what I mean....

Quote from CLRS530 :Are you bored a lot Racer Y?

Nah. More like bored and stuck in traffic. Ever run over an expansion joint at different times of the year? Do you have a clue what I'm even talking about? When you do that, and you will a lot in cities, It changes. Here it can change a lot. I ride a bike. I tend to notice these things and the effects they can have. Especially on the freeway. So I was wondering how far things like that was taken into account when designing a track.
If I'm just bored, I'll ask questions like; What would the LGBT community be like if humans reproduced asexually?

You know.... maybe this is off topic, but curiosity has gotten the best of me. Scawen goes on and on and on and on and on about tires. This dude should get a job at Good Year or something. He's always got something going on with the tires for this game. Gotta admit though, He got me paying attention to tires a lot more. Well what about the track surface? Is that designed to maximize the efficiency of the tires? Or is it just a standard surface? Like this is tarmac, this is brick, that sort of thing. Or are those things taken into account? Like with concrete. You got ready mix and it's got a bit of gravel in it and has a rough surface, Then you got Portland cement that when finished just right can be as smooth as glass. There's slight differences in asphalt too. Is any of that taken into consideration when designing the track surface?

My own mediocre but quite brutal vocal cover of Linkin Park's "Given Up".

Needed to vent after bad news after bad news, did a raw/unedited vocal recording, sounded ok after mixing it with backings, decided to release it.

Venting pain and frustrations in a creative manner for once..

Ha ha ha! That's cool dude. And hey. It still beats the crap outta Taylor Swift. Thumbs up

Since august of 2020, huh? Wow. That IS a long time to be out of the loop. Let's see here in the states we got a new President. More importantly, Caitlyn Jenner is running for Governor of California. Prince Phillip recently passed away. India is having a real hard time with Covid. And China is steadily pissing people off in South East Asia. Oh wait.... You meant Live for Speed? I think they posted some screen shots of South City or something.

Some friends tell me we partied with this guy back in the crown, coke and coke days. I don't remember. It was the Crown, coke and coke days. And I was a metal head back then and lived down the road from the infamous Gilley's night club. I partied with rednecks all the time and couldn't really tell them all apart. Either way If you like Country music from the Urban Cowboy era, This one isn't that bad.

Quote from Flotch :the graphical update seems quite advanced. Let's suppose Eric is on Fernbay (latest track to be heavily updated), and when it is ready, I do no think Scawen will want to postpone its release (that may occur with tire physics update). But to answer your question "when" : when it is ready ... obviously no date to be announced Petals

uhhh. you know. As far as I can tell Jamaica doesn't have a railway. I never seen one there. I mean they might. The island is big enough. But I didn't see one. Also on Fern Bay and South City the roads are too nice. What about expansion joints? Pot holes? Filled pot holes? Uneven tarmac surfaces? There are places in Jamaica that's a lot like here. The ground is a little soft and shifty. Roads have all these black streaks on them. Its filler material for the cracks. And as far as dressing up Fern Bay. Eric ought to know this: They have a ton of churches there. Somebody told me they had more churches per capita than anywhere else. You'd think you'd at least see one on fern black/gold. You see a train track that may or may not be there. Why not a building that is?
